School groups are cordially invited to attend the 16th annual University of New Hampshire Band Extravaganza. This exciting concert will feature the UNH Wind Symphony and the Wildcat Marching Band in the Johnson Theater. We will be performing three matinees for school groups and would like to encourage you to plan a field trip with your music students. Don't miss out!
The 2014 University of New Hampshire Wildcat Marching Band has a fun show in store. Imagination brings together music and visual ideas related to imagination, dreams, and play.
Opening with "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" as performed by Israel "Iz" Kaʻanoʻi Kamakawiwoʻole (complete with ukuleles) the band will keep the lighthearted feel of this version of the well-known song from The Wizard of Oz. From there, we continue into "Pure Imagination" from Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.
We'll then transition directly into "The Land of Make Believe" by Chuck Mangione, having some fun with the popular latin tune that you just can't help but dance to. Finally, we'll close with "Happy" by Pharrell Williams, including a percussion feature and some surprises at the end.
We'll be using our imagination a lot in this show. Are you a woodwind player who has dreamed of spinning a flag? Ever wanted to play the ukulele? Have you thought about how that balloon or ball or hula hoop could be used on the field? Can you do a stunt we can work into the show? We'll be thinking outside the box and coming up with new ideas between now and the end of the season. Hiding things in plain sight, using instruments and equipment in new ways, and just generally having fun.
Not necessarily representative of our arrangements, but to give you an idea...
Do you want to be a part of one of the most spirited organizations on campus? Do you want to be a vital part of UNH sporting events? Become a member of the Beast of the East Pep Band!
You’ll be assigned to one of three bands: Blue, White, Silver
Each band is assigned to 1/3 of our games. You can get a sub from another band if you can't make an assigned game. Attending assigned games, volunteering at other games, and subbing for other bands earn you points toward post-season travel.
On Sunday, August 26th, a great article about the University of New Hampshire Wildcat Marching Band appeared on the front page of Foster's Sunday Citizen. The online version also includes video from the first marching rehearsal and from uniform fittings. Check it out!

Placement auditions for the UNH Wildcat Marching Band drumline will be held in July. As it has been in the past, both veterans and new members are expected to audition. This is for part placement only. No one will be cut.
Auditions will be held on Saturday, July 18th, starting at noon. Following auditions, we will also have a mini-clinic, to give everyone a chance to play together for the first time. This will last approximately an hour. While the clinic is optional, we do hope you'll plan to stick around and make a day of your visit. It will also be a great chance to meet people.
