We have a place for you!

The University of New Hampshire bands are open to all UNH students, regardless of major. Some groups require an audition in order to participate. Read on for more information.

Wildcat Marching Band and Beast of the East Pep Band

If you are going to be attending UNH this coming Fall and wish to be a member of the Wildcat Marching Band, then visit our forms page to fill out the participation form starting in June. You can register for Marching Band and Pep Band when you choose your courses this Summer, or add them during open registration. Many people participate in both athletic bands. Beast of the East Band rehearsals will be held during the same rehearsal time as Marching Band, so it won't add much to your schedule. New pep band members are welcome second semester. Are you on Facebook? Join this group for more information and to talk to current WMB members.

Wind Symphony, Symphonic Band, and Concert Band

An audition is required for membership in the Wind Symphony and Symphonic Band and used for seating purposes in the Concert Band. Auditions for these bands will be held during the first week of classes in September. Audition information is available below during the Summer. Second semester, new members are welcome to join the Concert Band starting on the first Tuesday of classes.

Join Concert Band Second Semester

Do you miss playing your instrument? If you did not join Concert Band this past semester but would like to play now, we have a place for you! Personnel for the Wind Symphony and Symphonic Band is set, but new members are always welcome in Concert Band.

Rehearsals start right away on January 26th, but it may be possible to add after that date. Auditions are not required. Optional auditions for seating will be held after the rehearsal on January 26th.

A message from Mrs. Goodwin

Hello, Concert Band!

I'm excited to get started with you this semester. We will jump right in on Tuesday with our first rehearsal. If you are new this semester and would like to audition for seating, we will stop early on Tuesday to accommodate that.

Auditions are NOT required, but encouraged so we can be sure to place you on the appropriate part in your section.

Please be aware that second semester auditions are much less formal than in the fall. It will just be me in my office rather than a panel of all the conductors and the teacher of your instrument. Since I'm comparing you to people I heard about 5 months ago, I tend to place people more conservatively to be fair to those who have played for a semester. In some cases, I didn't hear the fall auditions (especially clarinets) due to my teaching schedule. Just giving you a heads-up. Please don't get too worked up about it. Like, I said, it's more to make sure you're on the appropriate part rather than to rank you.

If you would like to audition, please prepare something you like to play. Excerpts from a solo or etude are perfect but it's really up to you. Make sure it shows off your abilities. I may ask you to play a scale to demonstrate your range on the instrument if it isn't apparent enough from the prepared piece. It's not to drill your scale knowledge.

New members are VERY welcome. If you have a friend who used to be in band, convince them to come with you on Tuesday. It's a great way to meet people from all over campus, to reduce stress, and to make great music again. Most of the members of the Concert Band major in something other than music. If you are new to the group and/or are bringing a friend, please shoot me an email to let me know what instrument so I can approximate the setup and sheet music needs on Tuesday.

Please make sure you bring any mutes or other accessories you could potentially need for your instrument from home (oh, and your instrument!). Percussionists, bring any sticks and mallets you have.

See you soon!

Second Semester Beast of the East Band

Do you play an instrument? Do you like going to hockey and basketball games? Do you want to be a major part of the spirit atmosphere at UNH sporting events? If so, then the Beast of the East Pep Band has a place for you! While our rehearsals and performances started in the fall, many students choose to join second semester. Regular Monday rehearsals will start on February 1st (6:10-8:00 PM). Returning members will have the option to count the games that precede the first rehearsals toward their required number.

If you would like to join, please contact This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it., the director, as soon as possible with your name and instrument. We use woodwinds, brass, and battery percussion (though we are interested in drum set players as well this year). You will sign up for a designated number of games at the first meeting. For more information, please visit our forms and downloads page.

New members will also need to purchase a rugby shirt, available here.

Members earn points that will be used to determine who gets to travel to playoff and tournament games in March and April, because we have a limited number of seats available. Band members who are selected to attend the playoff games will have all travel expenses covered by the university.

We'd love to have you join!

A message from Mrs. Goodwin

Hey, Beast of the East!

While I've seen some of you a lot over break at our games (THANK YOU) I'm looking forward to seeing ALL of you and welcoming our new members very soon. As you hopefully know, we rehearse Mondays 6:10 to 8:00 PM in PCAC M226 (the band room). All rehearsals are required but you will sign up for only some of the games. Find more information on the bands website. New members will also need to order a rugby shirt. You're also required to have a lyre or music stand for your instrument.

After our last two break games this weekend (6:15 call on Friday, 4:15 call on Saturday) we will have two regular season games next week. However, our first rehearsal/meeting will not be until a week from Monday. If you attend both or either regular season game next week, you can count those toward your required number of games.

Wednesday, January 27th is our first basketball game of the year. It will be a 6:30 call at the Field House. Saturday, January 30th is a 12:30 call at the Field House. Enter through the lobby and go through the left-hand doors. They should just let you in. We sit about mid-court toward the top of the bleachers. Vets will know where to go. I'll get the bucket of music over there from the Whitt after this weekend.

New members are more than welcome! If you have a friend who might like to join, please encourage them to do so. It's our most flexible ensemble and a great way to meet people, have fun, make music, and show your school spirit. Please let me know if I should expect them and what they play.

Please join the Facebook group to help stay up to date. Please sign up for text reminders by texting @boteb to 81010. If you can't text to short codes, then send @boteb to (603) 685-3180. See you on February 1st, if not before!
