The Beast of the East Pep Band is an integral part of the game atmosphere at all home men's hockey games at the University of New Hampshire. In addition, the band plays at several men's and women's basketball and women's hockey games as well.
In the fall, the Beast of the East rehearses on Monday nights during the Wildcat Marching Band rehearsal slot. This allows students to be part of both ensembles without it adding much to their busy schedules. When it's a designated pep band rehearsal night, the full marching band doesn't rehearse. If a hockey game ever conflicts with marching band rehearsal, that rehearsal is canceled so students and staff can be at the game.
In the spring, the band rehearses regularly on Monday nights until the hockey and basketball seasons are over. The first rehearsal of the 2015-2016 season will be announced once the hockey schedule is released. New members may also join in January if they can't do it in the fall. Information about second semester will be available in December. However, it is best to participate in the full year if at all possible. Doing so also greatly increases travel likelihood.
The band is usually split up so members play at only 1/3 to 1/2 of the games. With enough warning, it is possible to switch with someone or to get a substitute if you can't make an assigned game. This makes pep band the easiest ensemble we offer in terms of scheduling!
