Wildcat for a Day

Due to ongoing stadium construction and seating limitations, the University of New Hampshire Wildcat Marching Band will be unable to host a Band Day this year, so the Wildcat for a Day program is returning! We anticipate Band Day to return when we open the new stadium in 2016.

The Wildcat Marching Band invites outstanding high school marching band members to be a Wildcat for a Day. Students will observe the game day rehearsal, eat dinner with the band, and play with the WMB during the football game. Guard members are welcome to join us as well, and will learn the carriage to one of our tunes.

Hey, Wildcat for a Day attendees!

We are so excited to have you join us this year. In preparation, here is some helpful information for you.

Upon your arrival, you will be paired up with a "buddy" or two from the UNH band. Your buddy will help you find your way around, get you into the dining hall, and share music with you during the game.

Here's the schedule for the day:

1:45 PM - Check-in begins on the Cowell Stadium field (see directions below)
2:00 PM - Morning rehearsal with the Wildcat Marching Band. You will meet the people who play your instrument, warm-up with them, learn music and drill for pregame, and watch the rest of our rehearsal.
~3:30 PM - Go with the band to Holloway Commons for dinner. Afterward, the band will come back to the Paul Creative Arts Center (PCAC) to get their uniforms on.
5:00 PM - Warm up and march over to the stadium with the band (location TBD)
5:40 PM - The WMB will perform their 2015 pre-game show, and you get to join us on the field for one of the tunes!
6:00 PM - Kickoff UNH vs. CCSU.
During the game - Play with the band in the stands and cheer the team on!
Halftime - Watch the WMB perform selections from their 2015 Half-time show, "Clue."
After the game - March back with the WMB to the PCAC, where you will be dismissed. The game should end around 9:15 PM.

What to bring:

  • Your instrument/flag in performance condition (including percussionists).
  • A lyre for your instrument.
  • Khakis, a black shirt, and sneakers or marching shoes to wear to the game.
  • Sunblock and a water bottle!

What you'll get:

When you arrive, we'll give you a WMB cap. You also get admission to the game, and we will provide dinner at the dining hall for you. If you have family members or guests who would like to attend the game, they will have to purchase tickets from UNH Athletics. We will post a link soon for UNH Band discounted tickets.

How to get here and where to go:
Directions to UNH
Campus Map with locations circled - We will be in Cowell Stadium in the morning.
145 Main St. Durham, NH 03824 should get you to the right area if you’re using GPS.

Cowell Stadium is on Main St./Rt. 108 in Durham and is visible from the street. Parking is available in Lot A, across the street from the fields. There will likely be a fee to park here (depending on what time they start charging). You may also park at the Paul Creative Arts Center (or in B Lot nearby) to avoid a parking fee. Allow yourself more time to get to the stadium in the morning if you park here, but leave your car until the end of the game. We will march back to the Paul Creative Arts Center as a group afterward, so you won’t have to walk back to Lot A to get it.  How convenient!  That's also where the band returns from brunch to change into uniform.  Use the Campus Map with locations circled (above) to find your way to the field (follow the red arrows from the PCAC on the map).

You may park in faculty/staff or commuter lots or at meters without paying on game day, as those are enforced only during the week. You may not park in resident lots, and other parking regulations (handicapped spots, loading zones, etc.) are still enforced 24/7.

To get to the PCAC from Lot A: Take a left onto Main St./Route 108. At the intersection in front of the Whittemore Center (hockey arena), take a right onto College Rd. Follow this road around the bend, then take a left onto McDaniel Drive and another left onto Academic Way. This will bring you right to the PCAC.
